Fans of the hit crime procedural series are on a role after receiving some great news before the upcoming season 3 return of TNT’s “Major Crimes.” According to TV Line, the network is now thinking of having an “Inception-like” new show spin-off of “Major Crimes.”

If ever the spin-off will take flight, it will join other upcoming spin-off series alongside “CSI: Cyber” starring Patricia Arquette and Scott Bakula’s “NCIS: New Orleans.”

“Major Crimes” is actually a spin-off of “The Closer” (2005-2012) starring Kyra Sedwick and it was aired during its predecessor’s season finale. “The Closer” had already finished its long seven seasons run in 2012 and “Major Crimes” picked up the pieces with Mary McDonnell (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Scream 4”) reprising her role as Captain Sharon Raydor, the new head of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

“The Closer” spin-off had proven to be a hit after only two seasons that it was renewed for another one. With two great hit TV series under its belt, its not surprising that TNT continued with the story of the LAPD.

TV Line said that the possible spin-off will put the spotlight on FBI Special Agent Fritz Howard, which will mark the return of Jon Tenney. Also, a planted pilot about the spin-off will be featured in the seventh episode of the upcoming third season of “Major Crimes.”

Tenney’s character debuted on “The Closer” alongside his onscreen wife, Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick). The Internet Movie Database (IMDB) reported that he was also featured as a recurring cast member in six episodes of “Major Crimes.” He provided assistance to the division with his incomparable web of connections.

Aside from Tenney, “Major Crimes” will be joined by several new characters including including Special Operations Bureau commander Ann McGinnis and SIS (Special Investigation Section) supervisor, Lt. Chuck Cooper (Malcolm-Jamal Warner).

Meanwhile, TNT’s Michael Wright previously said that the network ordered a 15-episode season run for the show alongside “Rizzoli & Isles” and “Perception.”

“With the renewals of “Rizzoli & Isles”, “Major Crimes”, “Falling Skies” and “Perception”, TNT has built an incredibly strong arsenal of scripted series,” Wright said in a statement posted in the Deadline article.

“And it’s only going to get stronger with the addition of “Mob City” and the return of “Dallas” this winter, not to mention the debuts of “The Last Ship” and “Legends” next summer.”

In other news, TV Line confirmed that the show will have an expanded season! Four more episode orders have been added to the the previously reported 15-episode run. “Major Crimes” Season 3 will reportedly premiere on TNT on Monday, June 9, 2014 during the 2014 Summer TV Season.

And that’s it for the “Major Crimes” Season 3 update, including some information about its “Inception-like” spin-off.
